UFC Fight Night: Usman vs Buckley Preview 2d2n5b
All eyes are on the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia this weekend, as Kamaru Usman vs Joaquin Buckley headlines the next UFC Fight Night card in the early hours of Sunday morning for UK MMA fans.
Along with the Usman vs Buckley main event, there are a further 12 fights on the rest of the main card and prelims.
As the former long-reigning UFC Welterweight Champion, Kamaru Usman has all of the pedigree heading into this match-up. That being said, he hasn’t fought since October 2023 and has lost his last three consecutive contests.
As for Joaquin Buckley, he is riding the crest of a wave right now and has won his last six straight fights. This includes stellar victories over the likes of Stephen Thompson and Colby Covington. That being said, this is another huge step up for the #7 ranked welterweight.
A win here for either man throws them right back into the mix for a UFC Welterweight Title shot in 2026. So, who will walk away from the octagon this weekend with another victory to their name and a statement performance under their belt? We’ll soon find out!
Kamaru Usman vs Joaquin Buckley Prediction 2am3f
Kamaru Usman’s last fight against Khamzat Chimaev, who is the opponent for Dricus du Plessis’ next fight for the UFC Middleweight Title, was one he performed well in up at a weight division he had never competed at.
Now he is back down to his favoured welterweight, but did lose his last two 170-pound contests to Leon Edwards back-to-back. If Usman can replicate the kind of performance he put in against Chimaev, who’s net worth recently hit $3m, then he has every chance of beating his opponent.
That being said, Joaquin Buckley is in the form of his life right now and will be a tough man to beat. He has won his last six straight UFC contests, as well as being one of the knockout artists of the welterweight division.
Father time catches up with every man, and that could be the case with the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ now. Buckley is the favourite here and it is clear to see why.
On sheer activity and form, it’s hard to see past a ‘New Mansa’ victory here. However, Usman is certainly a live dog and will ultimately be fighting for his career, with retirement looming should he get defeated for a fourth consecutive fight.
We do expect this to be a closer affair than the bookies have it, but do see Joaquin Buckley’s hand getting raised.
