What Are The Main Glorious Goodwood 2024 Races? 384f1z

Over the five day Glorious Goodwood 2024 meeting there are 14 Group Class races, with three of those at the highest level – Group One.

Tuesday – Goodwood Cup (Group One) 2s3x2u

Run over 2m, the Goodwood Cup is another of the high profile Group One ‘cup races’ staged each year where you often get horses than ran in the Ascot Gold Cup taking part.

Won 12 months ago by the Hughie Morrison-trained Quickthorn after an inspired ride from the front by jockey Tom Marquand (watch below).

This year’s Goodwood Cup favourite is Kyprios, who landed the Ascot Gold Cup back in June at the Royal Meeting.

Wednesday – Sussex Stakes (Group One) 5m1a40

Run over 1m, the Sussex Stakes is for horses aged 3+ and is often a target for that season’s 2000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes winners.

Last year the Aidan O’Brien-trained Paddington stormed to victory (watch below) having also landed the Coral-Eclipse earlier that season. The Sussex Stakes, however, was Paddington’s last ever career win after flopping at York and in the QEII Stakes after. He’s now standing at Coolmore’s Stud for €55,000.

The 2024 St James’s Palace Stakes winner Rosallion heads the beating for this year’s renewal – he’ll be looking to give the Hannon yard their fourth win in the race, with their last Toronado in 2013.

Thursday – Nassau Stakes (Group One) 6v293t

Run over 1m, this Group One race is for fillies and mares only aged 3+. Last year we witnessed the Roger Varian runner Al Husn win the prize (watch below) – beating Above The Curve and the 2022 Nassau Stakes winner Nashwa.

This year’s race sees Opera Singer and this season’s Pretty Polly Stakes winner Bluestocking at the head of the betting.
