A trade for Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant could happen very soon, potentially before the NBA Finals ends.

Durant could be on the move sooner rather than later.
ESPN’s Shams Charania ed The Pat McAfee Show on Friday to speak about the impending trade involving Durant.
One of McAfee’s colleagues mentioned that a Durant trade could happen within a week. Charania expedited the timeline and explained how a Durant trade could be even sooner than that.
“I think there’s some motivation with some teams, potentially even sooner than seven days; maybe in the next few days, we could get some Kevin Durant trade actions,” Charania said on McAfee. “There is some serious traction on conversations on trade scenarios with the Suns.”
Charnia noted that six to eight teams have reached out to Phoenix to negotiate and make offers for Durant.
However, three teams have emerged as the finalists in the last 24 to 48 hours. The teams include the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
“Those are the three teams where a lot of the focus for Durant lies,” Charania said.
Kevin Durant’s Contract Could Pose An Issue
Durant being traded from the Suns is all but guaranteed.
Though Charania named the potential finalists to acquire the forward’s services, Durant’s contract could pose an issue.
Durant is on an expiring contract as he enters the final year of a four-year, $166 million deal. The former MVP is set to make about $54 million this season.
If a team is giving up multiple assets for Durant, they will probably want a commitment from him to sign an extension.
However, Charania noted that a team could acquire Durant as a one-year rental and risk losing him in free agency in 2026.
The Toronto Raptors famously traded for Kawhi Leonard in July 2018. The Raptors won the NBA championship that season, and Leonard left for the Los Angeles Clippers that offseason.
